  • Dog Toy I bought this item initially because I liked what it had to say about keeping the teeth and gums healthy. Unfortunately I don't think my dog liked the taste of chewing on something rubbery. He is a big chewer on rawhide and other dental chewies but this particular toy is mostly ignored by him unless we throw it around the room and he chases it or we try to pull it away from him. The idea was a good one. I wish he used it more.
Perfect for our dog! We have a cocker spaniel who loves to chew. He chews through tennis balls and other toys like they are going out of style. The people at the pet store said that he wouldn't be able to chew through this and if he does at all bring it back.
Not for a power chewer My Lab easily chewed the little nubs off of this toy. He loves it but he cannot play with it anymore.
Dangerous My dog loved playing with this toy however it is very dangerous to your pets safety. The toy has a small hole at each end and is solid in the middle so when the dog chews on it it creates suction that can pull your dogs tongue into the little hole at the end. The tongue then gets stuck in the toy. It happened to my dog and fortunately I was there to remove it which was very difficult. I had to cut it off without injuring the dog. The vet said that had I not been there to remove it the dogs tongue would have become swollen inside of the toy and if it had remained on for any extended period there was a good chance that the tongue would of had to been amputated. If you are buying chew toys always make sure there are at least two holes in each side of the toy which prevents suction pulling the tongue into the toy. This toy has two holes however it is blocked by solid rubber in between. This item should be recalled but there is no such thing for dog toys. Always be careful with what your dog plays with when you are not home.
Good dental hygeine I bought this for my sister's older dog that still liked to chew. The dog would bring it to me whenever I went to my sister's house to visit and seemed to really enjoy it. It's definitely a teeth cleaner which is a plus for many not so young dogs who are less likely to chew it up completely. I would rate it as medium durable and very satisfying to chew on without destroying which makes it less likely to get destroyed. Really active chewers and jaw endowed puppies like pit pulls would probably tear it up too quickly but chewing intensity varies widely. I find the dumb bell shape is atractive for the dog to hold on to one end while chewing on the other and the many layers provide a satisfying mouth texture. Still there are some dogs mostly under two that will destroy even this.
5 stars Resilient durable and fun. Our dog loves this toy. Great for large dogs with powerful jaws who like to chew.
Won't stand up to heavy chewers. I bought this toy with some trepidation as my 1.5 year old Labrador is extremely skilled at toy dismantling. So far the only toys that hold up to her abuse are the Nyla Bone Dura Chews. But we recently acquired a Golden that didn't enjoy the Nyla Bones as much so I gave this one a try. It arrived yesterday and the Golden loved it. However he may be more of a chewer than I originally thought because he was able to chew pieces off within about 30 min. Supervised we allowed the Lab to have one last hurrah with it and she completely demolished it into 1cm square pieces in about four minutes. Thankfully it was only $9 or so but I'm back to the drawing board of Nyla Bones or else.
Not for powerful Chewers I bought this toy for my 1 year old dog. She is powerful chewer and this toy was in a 100 pieces all over my floor within 15 minutes. I would not recomend this toy for any dog that tends to be a strong chewer.
Chompion dog toy My dog loved this toy but he's a power chewer and it didn't last long. He got his teeth into the hole at the end and proceeded to eat it. My brothers dog has one of these which my dog has played with and this did not happen to that one. So I'm not sure if this one was made diffferently or of a different material but it did not last a day. What a shame as my dog really loved this.
Great dog chew This toy was included by the pet rescue where I adopted my dog. He is young and chewing is his hobby. I purchased other chew toys for him but this is his favorite and he actually actively chews it. While there is some wear this toy has survived most of the other chew toys I gave him which he made short work of destroying. He likes to play fetch with it and he will go get it to play with and chew on his own. I recommend the Chompion.
