Slows down hungry eater A nice product! Easy to fill easy to adjust. And pretty fun for me *and* the cat! I especially like adjustable openings. With the big openings you can make it easy for the cat to start so that they get the hang of it and then make it more challenging as time goes on.
Good treat ball but NOT so good for Halo Spot's Stew Natural Dry Cat Food. This item seems to be very well made slightly bigger than a tennis ball. However I'd like to see the design tweaked a bit. My 3 kids have recently changed their diet to Halo's and it has a very small tidbit size food. There are two types of holes 3 round and 3 somewhat triangular shaped holes and settings which allow you to access partial sizes of these various openings. However none of the holes are small enough to work with the Halo's food. My kids don't get any special treats because of their weight. I was hoping to use this ball to provide part of their daily food and hopefully add a bit of exercise into their routine. I've tried various settings and taping over part of the holes but so far I can't seem to find the right combinationeither the bits fall freely out of the ball or they come out so infrequently that the kids don't bother with it. I'll keep trying to find the right combination but in the meantime thought I'd let others be aware of this one area of design that needs to be improved.
Love the SlimCat Food Balls! We purchased our first food ball over a couple years ago and we now have four. We're extremely happy with them! We purchased these because we have two cats both indoors and we felt like they needed some additional stimulation during the day plus both of our cats would eat way too fast when we would feed them from a bowl sometimes resulting in piles of vomit throughout the house not cool. It didn't take long for our cats to figure these balls out I just rolled it around in front of them to show them how and they got it right away. These work perfectly for what we needed them for. These food balls have held up very well. We have all four colors but for some reason our cats prefer the pink and orange balls those are always the ones that end up empty first not sure why though they will eat from the green and blue ones when the pink and orange are empty. The only caveat with these is that they are not the easiest things to clean but I haven't really had to clean them since the first cleaning I gave them after I purchased them.
Can't figure it out My cats don't really understand the point of this toy. When I push it around for them they eat the food that falls out but won't push it themselves unless they're starving. They've had it about a week and it's really their only source of dry food. It's also SUPER messyI am constantly stepping on bits of cat food. Not sure how I feel about this toy but I'm willing to give it more time.
Great for all sorts of energy! We have two cats that are two years old. One is very energetic and practically figured the ball out right away. WACK out comes food. I like this game! Her littler mate took a little more encouragement.I didn't take the food away immediately. I started to limit what would go into their regular bowl. I sat with the second cat and nudged the ball so that she could see that food would come out of it. She started to nudge it more and more. After a few days she got the hang of it.It's been great for their health especially the second cat since she is a bit of a scarfer. It's gets her more active.
Didn't work for us It seems like a wonderful idea but my cats just didn't adapt to it. I had hoped it would be good for our overactive Siamese kitten. When she did push it around she scattered food all over the house but wouldn't eat it. I also wanted our elderly British Shorthair to use it for stimulation. She totally ignored it even though I didn't give her any alternative food. Since both of our cats are at ideal weight to slim I hated to leave them without food too long to try this out. I really hated the mess as the food seemed to pour out or not come out at all. Right now it sits in their toy box and once in a while the Siamese bats it around the house so I guess it's not a total loss. As a feeder however it didn't work for our cats.
For my fat kitty We had our fat kitty on a restricted diet. It was working fine until we got a kitten. Then our fat kitty Spooky decided it was easier to eat the kitten's food. Wellwe ordered this ball hoping to give her exercise and it worked. The new kitten loves it too so we ordered him a ball of his own in green. I did however need to cover up 2 of the 3 holes so food wouldn't spill out too quickly. Duct tape is wonderful and the ball works great. Spooky has lost some of the weight already. Great product.
Works great my cats have lost weight here's a few tips Each ball seems to hold a little over 1/2 cup of food so I bought 2 of the balls 1 for each of my cats a bit over 2 weeks ago. My female cat was very over weight and has already lost 2 lbs. My male cat has lost about 1/2 lb but he wasn't much over weight so that's ok. The first day I got this the cats didn't know what to do with it so I showed them on the highest setting that when it rolled food came out. Of course being the lazy things they were expected me to do it for them all the time. I then took their little paws and had them bat the ball themselves. I did this for a couple days on and off until they got the hang of it. Also during this time I'd put out 1/2 day serving according to the bag of cat food to eat wile I was sleeping and then strictly on the food balls when I was away at work so they HAD to use them. After a couple days I took away the food dish entirely and started lowering the dispense rate each day until it got to the lowest setting. My cats are now eating from the balls only and have become more active and playful.
Amazing Feeding Option My cat no longer begs for food because he has this perfectly portioned meal to eat throughout the day. It is a toy that mimicks hunting as he throws it around and has fun all day. I just fill up one ball in the morning and then put it away before bed.
Cat loves it Does it work? Yes my cat figured it out in a matter of minutes. She ate the food in about an hour. While it does take a bit of tinkering to get the food to come out this ball works as advertised and keeps my cat entertained.
